Hill County D.E.S.

Preparing for Disaster and Emergencies is a prime responsibility of your local government.  Everyday, somewhere in our world, there is a disaster or an emergency that displaces people from their home for a few hours or for many weeks.

Your Local Disaster and Emergency Services Office, along with local law enforcement, fire and ambulance, public utility companies, hospital and local government officials are also preparing and training to respond to local disasters or emergencies.

Our goal is to "Save lives and property." This can only be done by being organized, trained, and responding in such a way that makes a very chaotic situation more organized.

Emergency Siren
Hill County Emergency Siren
To help in disseminating vital information to the general public on local disasters or emergencies, a warning siren has been installed near the Highland Park Cemetery.  By placing the siren in this area, it can be heard both in the downtown commercial areas, along with residential areas throughout the Havre community.

The following procedures need to be followed by all residents in and near the Havre community when the siren can be heard.

1. This warning siren will only be utilized when emergency information needs to be transmitted to the general public to save lives and property.  Tests will also be done throughout the year, but only during good weather.

2. When anyone hears the siren, they must locate a radio and tune it to KPQX 92.5 FM or KOJM 610 on the AM dial, which is our Emergency Alert System (EAS) broadcaster.

3. Information will be given to the public on exactly what the situation is and what must be done to save lives and property.

This is the only way to get a lot of information out to those who need it in a timely manner. Situations that may require the siren to be used include: tornadoes, earthquakes, hazardous material spills, floods, large fires, or terrorism events.

The following is a list of items that should always be available to you and your family should an emergency arise:

  • Flashlight
  • Batteries
  • Canned or non-perishable foods
