The Sporting Eagle Saloon is one of the few displays to be found in its
original location. Two long wooden planks that extended across two
barrels make up the bar and a mirror behind the bar is the room’s only
real decoration. Etched in the mirror is the date 1913. Both
items were found during excavations at the Sporting Eagle and from reports,
are believed to be original.
Several tables, also of the correct vintage, have
been made part of the exhibit. Burn marks on a few of the tables
are also an indication that they were once heavily used. Bottles
and beer cans – some manufactured at local breweries, have been added to
the display to enhance the authentic décor. Playing cards
and poker chips are also laid out on some of the tables denoting the wide
open gambling that was common in all Havre saloons of that day.
