School

With the influx of settlers and the railroad came many school-age children needing education.  Recognizing the need, local residents chipped in their time and talents to construct these early schools.  Having no funds to hire full time teachers, the most educated residents were drafted as intructors and paid mostly by donations.
Most schools were of the one-room variety and the curriculum mostly consisted of teaching the 3-R's of reading, writing and arithmatic.
